TD Bank Donates Branch in Carlisle to Hamilton Public Library
HAMILTON, ON – February 6, 2020– Hamilton Public Library (HPL) today announced the generous donation of the TD Canada Trust bank branch building and property in Carlisle to the Hamilton Public Library. The building in the centre of Carlisle, Ontario, at 277 Carlisle Rd., will serve as a highly visible community hub and gathering place.
“This new, adapted reuse of the TD building is a wonderful donation to the Carlisle community. When renovations are complete, the new Carlisle Branch will replace the existing one and serve the community well into the future,” said Past Library Board Chair Lori-Anne Spence Smith.
“At TD, we're committed to creating opportunities for the people in the communities where we live and work. We're thrilled to be able to give back to the Carlisle community with the donation of this space and to continue serving Carlisle residents through this partnership with the Hamilton Public Library." said Jayme Martin, District Vice President, Greater Hamilton Area, TD Bank.
“TD Bank Group’s generosity made this donation possible. Together with the City of Hamilton, HPL will work over the next few months to prepare a concrete plan to make this project a success,” says HPL’s Board Chair Nick van Velzen. “After renovations, the residents of Carlisle will enjoy a vibrant community space that will serve for generations to come.”
“We want to also thank Hamilton City Council and Councillor Judi Partridge for securing $1.75 million in capital funding to transform the building into a modern, accessible library,” van Velzen added.
“As the City Councillor for the area, I am delighted to see the building will be used as the new Carlisle Library. Many Carlisle residents have worked with me over the past 10 years to bring a new library to Carlisle. When renovations are complete, the new library will make great use of the site and will serve the Carlisle community well into the future. The community is very grateful for the TD Bank and Hamilton Library staff who have worked with our team to make the new Carlisle Library site a reality,” says Ward 15 Councillor Judi Partridge.
To ensure continued service to residents, the TD Canada Trust automated bank machine will remain on site at the relocated Carlisle Branch.
The TD Bank Group building was built in 1974. The building and property donation to HPL has been finalized. The City of Hamilton and HPL have conducted a feasibility study and will engage with a design consultant later this year. The project’s preliminary budget is $1.75M.
TD has been supporting the annual TD Summer Reading Club that encourages children's literacy since 1996.
