HPL Helps – Library Staff Lend Hands at Vaccine Clinics
HAMILTON, ON – March 9, 2021 – Over the next few months, 47 HPL Staff are supporting Hamilton Public Health’s vaccination clinics, beginning the week of March 15. This is in addition to the 20 HPL Staff already assisting Public Health in various capacities since January.
Throughout the pandemic, Team HPL has stepped up in many ways to support the City’s emergency response, including deliveries, PPE manufacturing, records management and scheduling. Working in the vaccine clinics is HPL’s largest secondment in the past year.
Due to this movement of Staff, HPL is adjusting its service hours at branches. Beginning Monday March 15, HPL is open Tuesday-Friday 1-6pm and Saturday 1-5pm. Branches are closed Sunday and Monday. This is a temporary measure to accommodate the City’s recovery efforts. In the coming months, HPL looks forward to restoring services hours and expanding on them as soon as we are able.
“Getting Hamilton residents vaccinated is most important to help save lives and move to a future without COVID-19 restrictions,” said HPL’s CEO and Chief Librarian, Paul Takala. “Thanks to HPL Staff who are assisting Public Health’s vaccination efforts and thanks to Staff who continue to serve Library Members in-branch and online. This work is vital for a healthier, safer Hamilton.”
During Library open hours, Members can pick up their holds, or Grab and Go surprise bags, use a computer, print, scan and copy. Our virtual branch is always open at hpl.ca. Borrow an eBook through OverDrive, watch a movie on Kanopy, read a newspaper or magazine on PressReader. Also, watch and remotely participate in Storytimes, Puppet Shows, Noon Hour Concerts, author visits, workshops, lectures and book clubs.
